Straight Talk About THC and Your Erection

Updated: Sep 8, 2021

Scientists don't know for sure if the use of marijuana causes erectile dysfunction. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29523476/

We do know that there are cannabinoid receptors in the smooth muscle of the penis. Anything that slows down the process of blood getting into the penis can cause ED, so there is at least a theoretic reason that smoking pot might make getting hard more challenging physiologically.

There is another side to the coin. Getting an erection is an amalgamation of a array of factors, including whatever is going on in a guy's head. It's like Yogi Berra said, "Baseball is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical." For plenty of guys there is a problem with anxiety which may get in the way of a good erection when it's needed the most.

According to at least one NIH study, and multiple anecdotal reports, cannabidiol (CBD) can have a profound beneficial impact upon anxiety. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4604171/

This would suggest that some men, particularly those that have more of a mental block than vascular insufficiency probably get more benefit from THC than harm.

There are plenty of ways that guys can improve their erections naturally. Even if everything is working great right now, living a healthy lifestyle will help keep you in the ballgame. If you're starting to experience some early warning signs of trouble, there are readily available natural cures for erectile dysfunction. The longer you wait, the more difficult the challenge, so sometimes it's better to be proactive. The same factors that engender a healthy cardiovascular system will help keep your pipes open so that you can stay hard.

  1. Eat heart-healthy foods.

  2. Exercise

  3. Quit smoking.

  4. Lose weight.

  5. Focus on getting rid of central obesity. (A hidden bonus: your penis will look bigger!)
